If you have not had a professional clean at your local dentist for over 6 months - 1 year, we recommend you schedule a clean at least 2 weeks prior to your Teeth Whitening appointment with us.
Although this is optional, we highly recommend scheduling a Check-up & Clean at your local dentist. As well as maintaining a consistent oral home-care regime, visiting your dental professional regularly will help keep plaque, calculus & possible cavities at bay. Having your gum health in top condition will prevent excessive gum irritation, improve your whitening results & help you recover faster from your Whitening treatment.
If you experience tooth sensitivity, you can prepare your teeth by using a desensitising toothpaste for 2 weeks prior to your Teeth Whitening appointment.
At Your Smileologist, we’re getting rid of the horror tales of sensitivity after Teeth Whitening with our gentle peroxide-based gel. However, for extra measure, you can use a desensitising toothpaste daily for 2 weeks or spot-treat certain teeth.
Eat and drink well before your appointment! (you deserve this)
Your tooth actually contains thousands of microscopic pores that open up during the whitening process and stay open for up to 48 hours after. Between this time-frame, your teeth are highly susceptible to introducing stains as they become highly absorbent. Therefore, in order to prolong your Teeth Whitening results, it is crucial to maintain a ‘White Diet’ for 48 hours after your treatment.
Be realistic with your expectations.
At Your Smileologist, we know how exciting it is to achieve bright, white smiles. However, it’s important to set realistic expectations and understand that a combination of professional teeth whitening and home-care maintenance is key to achieving your desired result safely.

Here’s a quick care-guide made just for you to refer to to make sure your new smile lasts bright for as long as possible.

For the first 48 hours, maintain a White Diet by avoiding highly pigmented foods & beverages.
Drink plenty of water to promote enamel & tissue rehydration.
During the whitening process, the teeth become desiccated & dehydrated. In areas of weaker enamel, ‘white spots’ or ‘splotches’ can appear after your teeth whitening treatment due to tissue dehydration.
However, drinking plenty of water immediately after your treatment will allow your enamel & tissue to rehydrate at a faster rate & improve the uniformity of your results.
Do not smoke for the next 48 hours.
Do not drink alcohol-containing beverages for the next 48 hours.
Avoid acidic foods & drinks, at least for 48 hours.
Drinking or consuming acidic foods (cirtus fruits) & drinks (fizzy soda) can increase post- treatment tooth sensitivity & prolong tissue repair. By avoiding acidic foods & drinks, you will promote enamel & tissue health rapidly.
Avoid extremely hot & cold liquids for 48 hours.
Rapid changes in temperature can increase your risk of post-operative tooth hypersensitivity.

Use our Step 1 Teeth Whitening Pen daily for 15-20 minutes for at least 3 days.
Follow up with our Step 2 Enamel Booster for at least 5 minutes after each session
For best results, use for 10 days.*
Over the next 24 hours, your result will slowly reduce by 30% due to tissue rehydration. During the whitening process, the tooth becomes dehydrated, resulting in a brighter shade lift initially.
In order to decrease the colour regression and stabilise your whitening result, using a gentle take-home whitening kit for at least the first 3 days is essential.
-
Use our The Duo take-home Whitening Kit.
Immediately after your first Teeth Whitening Treatment, we recommend using our The Duo take-home whitening kit for at least 3 days. For the best results, use daily for 10 consecutive days.
Adopt daily habits to prevent stains & prolong your results.
Adopting small changes in your lifestyle can help prolong your Teeth Whitening results for longer. We’ve listed some of our small (and manageable) tips!
After drinking coffee, tea or wine, rinse your mouth with water.
For cold caffeinated or tea-based drinks, use a straw and avoid direct contact with your teeth.
Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day & flossing once a day.
Reduce or cease smoking. Your Smileologist can work together with you to plan a Smoking Cessation Roadmap, recommend appropriate aids and monitor your progress.

The White Diet is the term used to describe the dietary restrictions that are strongly advised for the first 48 hours after your Teeth Whitening session.
“IF IT CAN STAIN A WHITE SHIRT, DO NOT EAT OR DRINK IT”
After your Teeth Whitening Treatment, the tooth structure is incredibly susceptible to up-taking colours. This process can dramatically reduce your Whitening results.
