your new smile awaits

how can I prepare?

what can I expect at my first professional teeth whitening treatment?

Congratulations on booking your first teeth whitening treatment at Your Smileologist! Although Your Smileologist will break down everything at your consultation, we know how reassuring it is to know what to expect.

Here’s how your appointment will run.

  1. 48 hours prior to your appointment, you’ll receive an email or SMS with the address of our home-clinic. This is also the perfect time to reschedule your appointment if you need. You will not be able to reschedule your appointment 24 hours prior.

  2. The first 15 minutes of the session will be dedicated to discussing the treatment procedure, risks & costs associated. You will be required to read & complete a Medical History Form and Informed Consent Form.

  3. Your Smileologist will perform a comprehensive examination to assess your eligibility for treatment. Any significant clinical findings will be discussed prior to beginning. Clinical photos will be taken.

  4. Your Smileologist will prepare you for your whitening treatment. This process involves protecting your oral tissues.

  5. Choose your Netflix series, Spotify playlist, podcast…whatever your heart desires!

  6. Your Smileologist will begin your treatment. Depending on your chosen treatment, the procedure will last from 30 minutes - 60 minutes.

  7. After your treatment, Your Smileologist will discuss your After-Care regime and provide you with your After-Care Pack.

  8. Take an ‘after’ photo with your new smile at our dedicated photo area (with our on-point lighting of course!).

what can I do to prepare?

  • If you have not had a professional clean at your local dentist for over 6 months - 1 year, we recommend you schedule a clean at least 2 weeks prior to your Teeth Whitening appointment with us.

Although this is optional, we highly recommend scheduling a Check-up & Clean at your local dentist. As well as maintaining a consistent oral home-care regime, visiting your dental professional regularly will help keep plaque, calculus & possible cavities at bay. Having your gum health in top condition will prevent excessive gum irritation, improve your whitening results & help you recover faster from your Whitening treatment.

  • If you experience tooth sensitivity, you can prepare your teeth by using a desensitising toothpaste for 2 weeks prior to your Teeth Whitening appointment.

At Your Smileologist, we’re getting rid of the horror tales of sensitivity after Teeth Whitening with our gentle peroxide-based gel that has been clinically proven to cause no post-operative sensitivity. However, for extra measure, you can use a desensitising toothpaste daily for 2 weeks or spot-treat certain teeth.

    METHOD 1

    • Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes each time.

    • Spit out the excess toothpaste. Do not rinse.

    METHOD 2

    • For certain sensitive areas, dispense a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on your finger and rub into the area.

    • Leave to rest overnight. Do not rinse.

Look for a toothpaste with Potassium Nitrate & Sodium Fluoride. Alternatively, check out our go-to toothpastes for alleviating sensitivity.

    • Sensodyne Toothpaste. Only the best in the market.

    • GC Tooth Mousse. Not a fan of mint? How about Mango? Strawberry? Vanilla?

    • GC Tooth Mousse Plus. Contraindicated for patients with Milk Allergies.

  • Eat and drink well before your appointment! (you deserve this)

Your tooth actually contains thousands of microscopic pores that open up during the whitening process and stay open for up to 48 hours after. Between this time-frame, your teeth are highly susceptible to introducing stains as they become highly absorbent. Therefore, in order to prolong your Teeth Whitening results, it is crucial to maintain a ‘White Diet’ for 48 hours after your treatment.

  • Be realistic with your expectations.

At Your Smileologist, we know how exciting it is to achieve bright, white smiles. However, there are a myriad of genetic, physiological and lifestyle factors that contribute to your whitening result. To name a few…smoking, your age & systemic tooth conditions, all play a role. It’s important to set realistic expectations and understand that a combination of professional teeth whitening and home-care maintenance is key to achieving your desired result safely.
