Tooth Gem Care Guide
preparation
-
The first 10 minutes of the session will be dedicated to discussing the treatment procedure, risks & costs associated.
Your Smileologist will perform a comprehensive examination to assess your eligibility for treatment.
You’ll be able to choose any design (pre-made or custom) and choose the best placement together!
Your Smileologist will prepare you for the application. This process involves isolating your teeth from your oral tissues.
Your Smileologist will apply your tooth gem/s. Depending on your chosen design, the procedure may last up to 20 minutes.
After your treatment, Your Smileologist will discuss your After-Care regime.
Take an ‘after’ photo with your new smile at our dedicated photo area (with our on-point lighting of course!).

1. If you have not had a professional clean at your local dentist for over 6 months - 1 year, we recommend you schedule a clean prior to your Teeth Whitening appointment with us.
Although this is optional, we highly recommend scheduling a Check-up & Clean at your local dentist. As well as maintaining a consistent oral home-care regime, visiting your dental professional regularly will help keep plaque, calculus & possible cavities at bay. A clean tooth surface is essential to prolonging the life of your tooth gems. Natural teeth with suspected dental disease (ie. cavities) will not be eligible for placement.
2. Eat well before your appointment! (you deserve it!)
In order to prolong your Tooth Gem and to allow the dental adhesive to set completely, you will not be able to eat for at least 1 hour after your appointment.
3. Come prepared with a design in mind or inspiration pictures!
We love inspiration photos and love coming up with new designs! Your Smileologist is just as excited to bring your vision to life!
you’re ready to go!

maintenance
Here’s a quick care-guide made just for you to refer to to make sure your tooth gem lasts as long as possible
-
Do not eat or chew for at least the next hour (especially chewing gum!)
Avoid crunchy/hard foods for the first 12 hours.
Avoid anything sticky for the first 12 hours that may dislodge the tooth gem (chewing gum, toffee, honey, chewy sweets, nuts). Opt for softer or liquid-based foods such as porridge, soups, curries, steamed vegetables, soft fruits, etc.
Do not use your finger or tongue to play with your new tooth gem. It may take up to 3 days for you to adjust to the gem/s. Make sure not to pick or play with your tooth gem during the first few days.
Brush gently in the area of your tooth gem on the night of your appointment.
If you normally use an electric toothbrush, do not use an electric toothbrush in the area of your tooth gem for the first 48 hours. Instead, use a soft-bristled manual toothbrush and gently brush.
-
Similarly to your after-care instructions, adopting these eating & oral hygiene habits can significantly increase the life span of your tooth gem to up to 12 months.
Avoid directly contacting your tooth gem to hard & sticky foods.
Depending on the placement and style of your tooth gem/s, this may be difficult to avoid. Tooth gems placed near the ‘edge’ of the tooth have a significantly increased risk of falling off with normal mastication. Tooth gems placed from the middle to gum-line of the tooth are better protected.
Be consistent with your daily oral hygiene of brushing twice a day & flossing once a day.
Seek a professional clean with your dental professional every 6 months - 1 year. A clean, plaque free tooth surface allows the dental adhesive to adhere more effectively to enamel & provide a better hold of the tooth gem. By flossing once a day and brushing the surfaces around your tooth gem, you will prolong the life of your tooth gem & maintain good oral health.
Do not use your finger or tongue to play with your new tooth gem.
Applying any sort of pressure to your tooth gem may cause the gem to become loose over-time and increase its risk of failure. As they say…look but don’t touch! Follow this mantra and your tooth gem will thank you!
-
Unfortunately, at our Your Smileologist’s home-clinic, we don’t (yet) have the appropriate equipment to remove your tooth gem thoroughly. We recommend visiting a dental professional to remove your tooth gems safely. This will involve removing your tooth gem & polishing off any remaining dental adhesive left on your tooth.
